Project dates: 22 June 2020 - 4 November 2020
Bendigo Station Waiting Room Upgrades
Passengers using Bendigo Station now have a more comfortable and accessible place to connect with their bus or train, following the completion of works to upgrade the station’s waiting area. Construction works managed by VicTrack and V/Line commenced on 22 June 2020 and were completed on 4 November 2020. The opening held last Friday 13 November was attended by the Minister of Transport Infrastructure Jacinta Allan.
What's been upgraded?
The waiting area upgrades included lowering a ticket counter to improve access for people with disabilities, improving the waiting and customer service areas, upgrading the toilets, and installing a new changing places facility. The changing places facility is for use by people with disabilities who require additional assistance and equipment for their personal care needs.
New seats have also been installed and the layout of the waiting area has been changed to make it easier for passengers to pass through and catch their bus or train. The existing kiosk has also had a facelift.
Who else was involved?
The upgrade works were delivered by Bendigo-based firm BLR Provincial Construction, who have experience in working on buildings with heritage significance and carried out works to upgrade the Bendigo Hospital Precinct Childcare Centre.
The improvements to Bendigo and Eaglehawk Stations were part of the Victorian Government’s $15.8 million project to upgrade the stations to improve accessibility and comfort.
