Attending an assessment centre

Assessment centres are busy days and involve lots of people. We encourage you to make sure you arrive on time and bring along all of the requested information

Assessment centres allow to demonstrate who you are, much more so than a formal interview.

If you have been invited to attend a V/Line Assessment Centre then you have already made it through a number of steps in the selection process. Relax, enjoy yourself and remember that everyone there is in the same situation. If you relax then you tend to demonstrate more of the real you.

Assessment centres are often looking at your ability to work as part of a team. Work with the other assessment centre attendees rather than competing with them. It’s okay to agree with a colleague's idea or recommendation.

Encourage other to share their ideas and contributions. Demonstrate your personal leadership by providing guidance and suggestions.

We want to hear what you have to say so speak clearly and articulately. Remember that good communication requires you to demonstrate your ability to listen to others as well. Explain your ideas and suggestions to demonstrate your reasoning.

Don't leave with unanswered questions. This is your opportunity to ask whatever questions you have about the assessment centre process or the position you have applied for. There will be a number of V/Line team members present who will be happy to answer your questions.
