3. Contractor obligations
All contractors have obligations and responsibilities in relation to the maintenance of a safe and healthy working environment.
- Compliance with all legislative requirements, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004 and the Rail Safety National Law 2012.
- Compliance with V/Line’s safety management system including policies, procedures, work instructions and guidelines.
- V/Line’s commitment to maintaining an alcohol and drug free workplace is upheld.
- Taking care of own safety and the safety of others.
- Ensuring that all contractors, sub-contractors and employees are appropriately qualified, trained and supervised in relation to any work they perform.
- Appropriate awareness, management and protection of the environment at worksites.
- No person may interfere with or misuse any item provided for the health, safety and welfare of persons at work.
- Individuals must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that is supplied by their employer and/or V/Line. Safety equipment, uniforms and protective clothing are to be used appropriately as required for the task being undertaken.
- Maintenance of plant and equipment to a safe standard and in good condition and ensuring that it is used in a manner which is safe and without risks to health.
- Incidents must be reported – this includes personal injury, property damage, hazardous condition, near miss occurrence or environmental exposure.
V/Line reserves the right to remove from its site any person who is found to be acting in a manner that is dangerous or offensive to V/Line employees, contractors, or members of the public, or in a manner which is likely to cause harm to the environment.
